Webb Dock – David Hodgett

The $1.6 billion Port Capacity Project was an investment in key infrastructure for the Webb Dock Precinct at the Port of Melbourne. The works included vital roads and services infrastructure to enable the fast tracking of additional container and automotive capacity for Victoria. Webb Dock East is a 37 hectare purpose-built facility that has been developed into Australia’s first fully automatic container terminal.

Project highlights

  • Buffer works along Todd Road to reduce local noise and a landscaped linear park with facilities for cyclist and pedestrians linking the city to Westgate Park and the beachfront.
  • Direct on-ramp from the Port to the West Gate/M1 corridor, keeping port trucks off local roads.
  • 600,000 vehicles handled annually.
  • The completed dock accommodates increased import trade and increased capacity to one million standard containers per year.
